This I Believe

I believe that all men and women are the same inside no matter what there colour , or their race. Some people believe that one race is better then the other because of there skin colour. I don't think thats fair because inside everyone is the same. I heard a story once where a little girl asked "is there a difference blacks and white" she asked this to a parent. The parent said "pass me 2 apples and peel them" she then peeled the apples. One was red and the other was green. She peeled the skin of so only the inside of the apple was there. The parent then shuffled the apples around and asked the little girl "do you know now which one is red and which one is green" the little said "no" "you see" the parent said " on the outside they are different but in the inside they are just the same". It hit me to know how simple the answer was. That all men and women are the same. When I was in 5th grade I was new to a school and I went up too a couple of guys and I asked " Can I play with you" and the guy in the middle said "no cuz your a german Nazi" I was stunned that someone would say something like that, later on that year I was excluded and left out just because I was german, I was getting more comments and jokes of how I was a nazi and I started World War 2. Soon I almost felt ashamed to be a german, soon I told a teacher and then t stopped but my feelings were still hurt. Soon I knew the truth that of course I wasn't a nazi and of course I didn't start World War 2, so I stopped feeling so mortified. I felt this when I heard the apple story because I knew how simple it was and that racism is not right. This game that we played is a game played in 1066 with the battle off hastings. You can play as William or Harold G. The point is that you have to win or defend Duke William or Harold G. The fun of it is that you have to use a strategy to win, and its really interesting what strategies you can use. How complicated and difficult and brutal it is. The Saxons used a shield wall to block off the Normans this was very efficient but then by accident the Normans thought there king was dead so they retreated and they Saxons broke there line and ran after the Normans but William was still alive and they noticed that they would break there wall. So they made a fake retreat to break the Saxon wall so they then would cut them down and kill Harold. You can learn strategies and Technic in fighting in that time.

Catherine Called Birdy

The book Catherine Called is a historical fiction novel taken place in the medieval ages. The character is teenage girl called Catherine try's to get free from her locked up by trying to get equal rights, gender equality, and power of the church. You can tell she is trying to get free because she keeps getting locked up in her chamber, like when she burned down the barn, that just proves that shes a fighter. Equal rights because she wants to be able to choose her marriage, like when she was forced to marry Shaggy Beard. Gender equality because she gets mad that the boys get all the adventure and the girls gotta stay home and clean. Like when she was sad that she couldn't become a crusader. Power of the church because Catherine thought they made such boring and depressing, like those feast they always had. All in all life in medieval ages was extremely difficult and fustrating.

I was walking slowly on my struggling feet. I was striding towards the fence to hide from the soldiers. Trying to ignore my hunger. I could see a little chubby boy in shiny, new, clean wearing clothes, wearing polished shoes. I just dropped to the floor. Tired and sick, I gazed up and the fat one was still looking at me with a confused look. He shouted "Hello" in a proud voice" "I am exploring".

Power of the Void

Good morning class, I have some important news. Next week’s holiday, is unfortunately cancelled. Also, little Jimmy, I spoke to your father on the phone about your grade and he told me to tell you that he would speak with you when you get home. I’d also like to hand back your assignment from last class. The class average was D- and most of you earned an NP.

Just a reminder that Connie will only be serving mushroom soup and liver pie for lunch today. One piece of good news though, I will be leaving the school after this class because I won the lottery. Your new teacher will be(silence) Mr. Grumpypants. Your next playing test will count for 100% of your grade and will be done in the cafeteria tomorrow at lunch. Now, let’s get started on today’s lesson…

I think if a silence would be inserted in there it would make students very tensed because they don't know who there teacher is gonna be and the answer is about to come. They don't know what he's gonna say and they want him so badly so they can find out there next teacher is. But there is a silence and the students want him to say so badly the name of the next teacher. But then he says it and then the tension is over and everyone is relieved that the answer cam out.

So thats how the void can be used in a efficient way.

The lottery

This story I would call The Lottery since the whole story is actually about a lottery and the winner/loser gets stoned to the death.

I thought originally would happen was that Tessie would have to leave. I thought this because at he end of the story it says

"and there was a stir in the crowd" p.g 301

I guess I felt kinda tense because I thought that lottery was a good thing but it turned to be something that wasn't so good but I also nervous. I was very tempted to find out what happens at the end. But I didn't open my paper until 5:00

Honestly when the paper was handed to me I felt like it was gonna be something random that we had to do. But now that I see it. It gives me the end of the story, and now I am following the directions by writing this blog.

I felt very nervous about the black box and the black spot, because I didn't know what it meant and I had a black spot on my mystery paper so I was very curious and nervous about what it meant.

I felt kind of surprised because as it said there was a stir in the crowd I instantly knew that the lottery was something bad, because I thought it was some thing good.

No my predictions were not correct because I said I thought the person would have to leave the village but it turned out that they get killed. I felt very surprised.

Maybe if they detailed the black box and the black spot a little better, my prediction would of been better, because as said I was very surprised.

I think the author wanted to make us nervous and tense because at the end you can tell that something not right, which leaves people with a big question mark.

The void in this story is very powerful because it is very unexpected what happens at the end. So it makes you nervous to not know whats going on because you know something not right, which makes you very nervous.
